Enjoy Vintage Beats & Sonic Treats at Pig's Big Ballroom

We are pleased to announce the line-up we’ll be lindy hopping and be-bopping to in our excellent emporium of vintage beats and sonic treats, Pig’s Big Ballroom! For the twelfth year running the 78s spinning specialists of the Shellac Collective will be pulling out all the stops in Pig's Big Ballroom to put on a show of vintage music splendour and unrivalled live music that'll bring joy to your heart. Shellac Collective founder and Pig’s Big Ballroom curator Greg Butler says: "The Shellac Collective have been performing at Camp Bestival thick and thin since it started in 2008 and we're thrilled to still be invited back here to come and entertain you all with our mix of vintage, Jazz, Skiffle, Rhythm and Blues, Swing, Country, Folk, Roots and early World Music. The bands and performers in the Pig's Big Ballroom are carefully selected to reflect the joy of an earlier pre-digital age before synthesizers were invented and when R&B meant something totally different to what it does today. ALL our DJs, as ever, only use original shellac 78rpm gramophone records on the famous "Wheels of Wood" carefully monitored by our mascot "Kipper the Cat". For those of you who are wondering why our venue is called the ‘Pig's Big Balllroom’ - it's in honour of John Peel - who would play a 78 every night on his show called the Pig's Big 78 - introduced by his wife Sheila who he affectionately called ‘The Pig’.” Harking back to the vintage days of music, you’ll find live performances from off the beaten track including Grammy nominated and double Ivor Novello Award winning lyricist and co-founder of Squeeze Chris Difford, bluegrass legends Thunderbridge Bluegrass Boys, theatrical absurdity with Discharge Lounge, powerhouse performers Dodo Bones, Dorset’s finest Rockabilly Stomp outfit The Jimmy Hillbillies, beatrantin’ rhythm ‘n views from The Antipoet, madcap Mariachi band Vote Pedro, hot rockin’ and sugar sweet harmonising with The ObscuritonesPlus there will be live sets from Hot Rod JesusThe Siren SistersJames WhiteBAILEY,  Three Years Younger and many more. image Pig’s Big Ballroom entertainment will include amazing cabaret from Laurel and Hardy, tiny performances from Ms Chameleon's Incredible Flea Circus, and your chance to front an entire band of fine-tuned ukuleles with Karauke.
