Spinney Hollow Woodland Crafts


Beneath the canvas, and waggon facade you will find the 'Proper job' craft village which hosts a diverse range of hands on rural craft workshops for all ages. They are all designed to lure you in to hands on creativity, heritage crafts and give you the skills and satisfaction of making something yourself!
When you are done, kick back fireside and soak in stories, music and jamborees for all ages. Thursday Night's Opening spectacular ‘The Dragon and the Wild Tribe'
Join Edward Wren from Spinney Hollow, who is conducting a storytelling extravaganza to welcome people in to the magic of the field. Expect large scale puppets, live music, ridiculous characters and even some cameos from our selection of crafts folk. You too are invited to take part, or sit back and take it all in in this joyful telling of how the WildTribe village conquered the Dragon! Sunday Ceremony

Spinney Hollow’s Woodland workshops
• Sword Making: The question is… are you  a knight, ninja or a pirate? Carve your own sword on the shave horse using a drawknife, and swear the spinney Hollow warrior oath. • Wandsmithing: Fashion your own magic wand on the pedal pole lathe with our woodland wizards using traditional green woodworking skills. • Dagger and sword assembly: For smaller hands and those who require the whole armoury, a jam pact interactive workshop creating your own boot dagger along with compulsory oath swearing! • Staff Making: Whether it’s for wayfaring, wizardry or walking, create your own personalised staff using green woodwork tools.
(Due to popular demand, bookings for sword/wand and staff making will be taken on Friday morning of the festival from 9am. There will be biscuits and bants for the queue... promise!) Al Fresco Forge: Craftsman Mark is back with his dramatic drop forge and bracelet making workshops. Wren and Bee Hedgerow Headdresses: Adorn your head with your own willow headdress with treats from the garden and hedgerow whilst learning the basic in willow work. Axe and Paddle Bushcraft: Spoon carving, Bow making and much more with the wonderful Steve and co… Wyldwood willow: The willow queen is back with her amazing weaving workshops for all ages. From baskets to Dragonflies, there’s a project for everyone. Green Magpie: The beautiful Green Magpie are returning with her handmade bunting, tutus and crafty magic. Emma Mountain Felt: From felty accessories to felt fox ears, Em and her team will get you busy in no time! Oak Clan Forge: One of the most brilliant workshops in the south, Simon lives and works as a blacksmith in his horse drawn waggon and has developed s fantastic family workshop to entice you into Iron Age forgery. Kirsty’s Shields: Equip yourself with your own personalised shield. Join Kirsty and Co to design and finish your very own wooden protecter to aid the invisible battles ahead. Boat full of wool: Fall into the world of recycled and naturally dyed yarn with Sophie. From Pom Pom key chains headbands and animals to knitted colourful necklace, there’s a whole host of colourful options to get stuck into! Eddie's Greenwood Puppets: Carve and complete a new character or make a mini dragon under puppeteer and storyteller Eddie’s Bowtop awning. The Brand Stand: NEW this year brand onto your chosen wooden item using a small charcoal forge and learn or dust off your pyrographing skills! Our house blue grass band Yeeha Granma will also be entertaining us throughout the weekend with their interactive country classics. Look out for the lost pirates for nonsensical poetry, Harriet’s Hula challenges, BearFace Theatre and why not paint a pebble while your here too! Who are Spinney Hollow?
Spinney Hollow is a non-for profit woodland project on the outskirts of Winchester, Hampshire run by Geoff and Kate (with a lot or distraction from our small children!). We build waggons and field shelters amongst other green wood work projects, run creative and crafty outreach workshops and sometimes we find time to burn charcoal too.
