Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust

The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust takes young people between the ages of 8-24 on four-day sailing trips, helping them regain their confidence on their way to recovery from cancer. The Trust is super excited to be the official charity partner at Camp Bestival, and look forward to empowering a record number of young people this coming summer! Trust trips are a unique and life changing experience for the young people that join them, but they are about much more than just sailing. “Sailing is just a vehicle”, says Trust founding Patron Dame Ellen MacArthur. “It’s about regaining your life. The joy of the trips is over- whelming, they are transformational”. The young people get involved in every aspect of running a yacht, they are with other young people who have undergone similar treatments, share the same worries and have also had their confidence stripped away. The atmosphere a boat creates has an incredibly positive effect, concentrating very much on what they can achieve rather than what they cannot. Being away with other young people in the same situation and on the water feels like a world away from treatment and the isolation of hospital life. If you would like to make a one-off donation of support, an easy way is to text EMCT18 and your amount to 70070. For further information please visit www.ellenmacarthurcancertrust.org
