The Apples

Over the past seven years this nine-strong instrumental group from Tel Aviv, Israel has been folding cuts and scratches from every imaginable source into Big Band blares and Middle Eastern elements on top of a raw and dirty funk base, baking a thick multi-layered sonic treat.

Keeping true to their origins as a spontaneous composition ensemble, they kick ideas up and down the stage in a torrent of Decks, Horns, Double Bass, Drums and Electronic Effects. No digital samplers, no guitars or keyboards and no safety net as the arrangements are reinvented on the spot and the roles of solo and backing instruments change in the blink of an eye to any of the nine members.

The band are a true mixing pot of funk, hip hop, big band jazz, rock and turntablism - all delivered in their energetic and off-kilter style. Just check Youtube for examples of their incendiary performances.

Last year saw the release of their cover version of Rage Against The Machines ‘Killing in the Name Of', which gained plays across the globe and support from DJs such as Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, A Skillz and Mr Scruff. To date, it is the largest selling single on their Buzzin' About imprint showing that demand for the band is at an all time high. This demand is sure to rocket even further with the release of "Buzzin' About" - 12 tracks packed with fresh ideas, dazzling showmanship, unique musicality and more sweat-inducing funk than you can shake a stick at.

Expect the unexpected as the boys march forward into 2010, digging deeper into their countless influences and resurfacing with genre-melting, ear-turning, booty-shaking groove music, to make Camp Bestival rock to it's very foundations.
