VV Brown

VV Brown’s beginnings in music couldn’t be any further away from where she finds herself today, starting out as a backing singer for Madonna as well as writing songs for amongst others The Pussy Cat Dolls and The Sugababes.  Fast forward to VV’s debut album “Travelling Like the Light” and what you find is a ballsy collection of doo wop, 60’s R&B and retro soul, with a contemporary indie punk twist.

Due for release in May 2009 the album sees the culmination of a hectic year for the young Northampton lass, after releasing her first single “Crying Blood” VV or Vanessa to her friends has been on a whirlwind of TV appearances and gigging that has seen her grace the ever important Later With Jools Holland, play the BBC Electric Proms, pop up at last years Bestival and get herself nominated for the BBC’s Sound of 2009.

Describing her style as “Musical Mashed Potatoes”, where VV differs from others taking the retro route of late is in the incredible sense of balls out, take no prisoners fun that she imbues in her music. A rising star definitely not to be missed at this year’s festival.
