8 weeks to go 'til Camp Bestival!
There are just under eight weeks to go until we all make the journey to Dorset's glorious Jurassic coast for a weekend of joy at Lulworth Castle and we have got some super-exiting news for you including the fact that the Jousting will be on every day! With 53 sleeps before Camp Bestival throws open its gates it's not long until we can enjoy three full days of partying with Madness, Friendly Fires, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, The Human League, Calvin Harris, Stornoway and many more musical pleasures. Plus there will be literally 100s of free things for kids to do, amazing food from the likes of Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and his River Cottage Cafe, enlightened and erudite entertainment at the East Lulworth Literary Institute, Fairy Tale fancy dress, Zippos Circus, The House of Fairy Tales and much, much more.Tickets available now: www.ticketline.co.uk / 0844 888 4410
Rob da Bank says: "Jousting is the new black, its official. Anyone who saw the shows last year know how exhilarating a bit of jousting looks after a pint of real ale... and the kids were screaming for more too. So its back and it's now every day, gang! Our 'How To ...' series for budding creative types from eight to eighty year olds already has film director Andrea Arnold, uber-producer William Orbit and DJ Derek on board so we're delighted that Gavin Turk one of the original Young British Artists and also the co-curator of The House Of Fairy Tales is joining the bill to tell us 'How To ... Be An Artist'. See you down the front!"
A firm favourite with kids young and old, The Knights of Lulworth Castle will be performing their dramatic battles on horseback every day at this year's Camp Bestival. Join 'Horses Impossible', the celebrated stunt riders from films such as 'First Knight', 'The Clash of the Titans', 'Van Helsing' and Russell Crowe's 'Robin Hood', as they delight you with their amazing show. With spectacular period costumes, and set to an exciting soundtrack, the medieval show will leave you breathless, as you witness the skill of the Games and the danger of the Joust. As well as mounted knights with lances, you'll see displays with swords, staffs and even a flaming mace! The evil black knight, Lord Odious Black, has issued a challenge to the knights to come and show their skills, but will he cheat? Probably! So be prepared to Boo! Our Herald will lead you through the history of knights and the tournaments - all the gore and more - get involved and cheer on your favourite knights as they face one another for the competition. The jousting never fails to impress and with performances every day there's no excuse to miss the majesty of medieval combat.
Following their amazing shows last year, the English National Ballet are back by popular demand to wow the crowd with their sublime performances but not only will they be performing live they will also be showing films of their recent ballets and conducting ballet hair and make-up sessions, so your budding ballerinas can perfect their look!
The 'How To…' sessions, that already feature acclaimed film director Andrea Arnold, über-producer William Orbit and legendary rock photographer Kevin Cummins will lay bare the mysterious world of the arts for all to see, giving you the opportunity to learn from the real masters, so we are very pleased that the line up will be completed by a special session from Gavin Turk. At the forefront of the Young British Artists movement that also spawned Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin, Gavin Turk is widely regarded as one of the UK's most important artists. Alongside Deborah Curtis, The House of Fairy Tales is one of the most exciting attractions coming to Camp Bestival this year, so it's a huge honour to have him baring the secrets of his success.
