Morris Dancers

We’ve got dancing with bells on! Hot stepping around Lulworth Castle, catch our troops of Morris Dancers jingling and stick bashing in trad English stylee. Festus Derriman and Hobos Morris Dancers are two sides from the South Coast who will coming to join in the fun. HOBO MORRIS:
Hobos Morris formed over 10 years ago - a great band plus female border dancers, based in Poole, Dorset. Our first season coincided with the 50th Anniversary of D-Day. Major-General Percy Hobart of the 79th Armoured Division, produced and commanded the unusual tanks needed for the beach landings, affectionately known as Hobos Funnies! Their regimental colours were red, black and mustard, and emblem the Raging Bull. The name provided us with our colours, badges and a bit of history. Perfect.  We usually paint our faces as tigers - for no real reason other than we prefer it to the traditional black! We dance a lot of our own dances in the Border Morris style. FESTUS DERRIMAN:
Festus Derriman is a character in Thomas Hardy's 'Trumpet Major'. Since this novel features the village we know as Upwey, where our Morris Side is based, it seemed like a logical name. The side was formed in the late 80's.  We have 6 musicians- 2 of whom also dance and 10 dancers. We dance Cotswold Morris- usually the Adderbury and Bampton traditions- with the odd Fieldtown thrown in. We do Morris Dancing our way and enjoy it! We are a mixed side and part of the Morris Federation. Our aim is to keep the traditions alive, be entertaining and enjoy ourselves.
