Bedtime stories with The Famous Five
2017 sees us celebrate 75 years since the very first Famous Five book, Five On A Treasure Island was published. To mark this fantastic literary anniversary Camp Bestival are honouring one of the most celebrated children's series ever written by reading a selection of the original published short stories each evening as the annual Bedtime Stories slot with special guests appearing each night to read new short stories. Based in Dorset and just down the road from our magical festival site of Lulworth Castle, the Famous Five series capture the essence of adventure filled summer holidays in the beautiful English countryside; in a gloriously grown-up free world where children explore the rural landscape, enjoying thrilling adventures under freshly washed skies. In Blyton’s world, children are always the heroes – and that’s something that will never go out of fashion. Enid Blyton's books have sold over 500 million copies and have been translated into other languages more often than any other children's author. She wrote over 600 books and hundreds of short stories, including favourites such as The Famous Five,The Secret Seven, The Magic Faraway Tree, Malory Towers and Noddy. To celebrate the 75th birthday of The Famous Five, Hachette Children’s Group has published a new edition for yet another generation of readers, this time with stylish, modern covers by children’s illustrator Laura Ellen Anderson.
