Kevin Rowland (Dexy's Midnight Runners)

If you find yourself yearning for a little sharp sophistication amidst the frivolity of Camp Bestival, then go in search of the young soul rebel turned suave visionary.

With a brief to look great and sound like nothing else, Kevin Rowland formed the legendary Dexys Midnight Runners with fellow Black Country boy Kevin Archer in 1978. First album 'Searching for the Young Soul Rebels' was a belter, with its intoxicating brew of northern soul, punk and poetry marking out Dexys as purveyors of bespoke pop; two more albums followed, and a clutch of classic singles from 'Geno' to the ubiquitous and floor-filling 'Come On Eileen'. Kevin went his own way in the late eighties, and although his solo efforts never mirrored the commercial success of Dexys, he never lost the poise and panache that have marked him out as a bonafide musical legend.

His set at last year’s Bestival is fast becoming the stuff of legend so make sure you get yourself down the front. He may wear a dress. And who knows how Kevin might round his set off? Bring your air violin just in case.
