Andrew Weatherall (Rock n Roll set)
Try to pin down Andrew Weatherall, go on we dare you. Electronic Experimentalist, Madchester Pioneer, Pop Super Producer, Peerless Purveyor of the Minimal Techno Sound, Superstar DJ, at one time or another these are all terms that have been used to describe him and quite rightly so, but Andrew Weatherall is very much more than the sum of his parts.
Starting out in the late eighties he found himself at the cutting edge of the emerging British acid house scene playing Danny Rampling’s legendary Shoom night before moving on to residencies at a string equally pioneering club nights such as Blood Sugar, Circulation and eventually his very own Sabresonic.
Around this time Andrew was also instrumental in the founding of Boys Own, originally a fanzine before going on to become Boys Own Recordings, home to the Chemical Brothers first recordings.
Weatherall cut his own producing teeth remixing the likes of Happy Mondays’ ‘Hallelujah’, before being introduced to a middling indie band signed to Creation Records. That band were Primal Scream who asked him to remix their ‘Loaded’ track and the rest as they say is history. The success of the single led Weatherall to produce Primal Scream’s seminal ‘Screamadelica’ album which went on to become a generation defining release.
He has continued to push boundaries and create genres with his own acts, Sabres of Paradise and Two Lone Swordsman as well as building on his reputation as of this country’s finest innovative and experimental DJs. Ladies and Gentleman, Camp Bestival is proud to present a true original, Andrew Weatherall.
