Jon Hopkins

Jon Hopkins is a London-based composer, artist and producer. Hailed as a great talent from a young age, Jon started playing the piano when he was five and by the age of twelve was studying piano and composition at the Royal College of Music in London.

He has recorded two classic electronica albums: Opalescent, his impressive first album released in 2001 - “A priceless gem, an ambient classic on a par with Eno’s ‘Music For Airports,” gigwise.com; followed by the epic Contact Note, “A truly brilliant record – breathtakingly melodic, haunting and atmospheric, a sublime achievement,” The Music Review. He is now nearing completion of his third album, to be released later this year.

Jon creates sound-worlds and melodies both beautiful and disturbing, his music crossing seamlessly from electronic to acoustic and back again. His recent work sees him entering more experimental territory, employing simple, classical melodies on treated acoustic instruments set against jarring, hard-edged electronics, creating soundscapes that are both euphoric and unsettling.

He has recently been working with Coldplay, co-producing, arranging, and co-writing a number of tracks on their new album. Other recent collaborations include recording and writing with Brian Eno and contributing to forthcoming albums from David Holmes, and Massive Attack. Last year he produced King Creosote’s album, Bombshell, to huge critical acclaim.
