Camp Bestival is extremely proud to present a true legend to headline our main stage on Friday night. Charles Edward Berry, Chuck to his friends, practically created rock and roll, don’t take our word for it either, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame reckon: "While no individual can be said to have invented rock and roll Chuck Berry comes the closest of any single figure to being the one who put all the essential pieces together" and they tend to know about these things.
Now in his 81st year he’s lost none of the talent and energy that have burnt up stages across the planet for over have a century, yes that’s half a century! Combining scorching guitar licks with some seriously eloquent, witty and on the mark lyrics, the man directly influenced pretty much everyone making music from the late fifties right up to today, including the likes of John Lennon, Keith Richards and Brian Wilson to the point that without him there would be a seriously big hole in most people’s record collections.
Think ‘Johnny B. Good‘, think ‘Roll Over Beethoven‘, but most of all think 'Hail, Hail Rock and Roll' and ’Rock and Roll Music’ as the genius that is Chuck Berry brings proceedings on Camp Bestival’s first day to a magical climax.
