Emiliana Torrini
Half Icelandic, half Italian, all talent, Emiliana Torrini's appearance at this year's Camp Bestival promises to bring touch of pure class to proceedings. Her critically acclaimed debut album 'Love in the Time of Science', released back in 1999 was a record full of wonderment, hope and beauty infused with a dark trip-hop sensibility, it turned heads and marked the emergence of a glistening new talent.
She followed this assured debut by recording and performing the 'The Gollum Song', the theme to Lord of The Rings:The Two Towers, wrote and toured with Thievery Corporation and at the end of 2003 co-wrote Kylie Minogue's No 1 smash 'Slow' with Brixton based producer Mr Dan.
This collaboration bore even more fruit as they worked together to produce Emiliana's second album 'Fisherman's Woman' a much more introspective work that was more akin to Nick Drake than Portishead it showcased Emiliana's range as she proved more than capable of producing the same power and beauty with just the backing of an acoustic guitar as she had previously done with her more produced work, a rare talent indeed.
