Kate Nash
12 months is a very long time in the world of pop music. At the start of 2007 flame haired, Harrow based songstress Kate Nash was unsigned but slowly building a reputation through word of mouth, using Myspace as her main creative outlet. A year later and she's had a raft of hit singles including a number one and a platinum selling album, won Best Solo Artist at the NME Awards and Best Female at The Brits and is set take on the coveted Sunday night headline slot at this year's Camp Bestival.
Her meteoric rise to pop princess and national treasure is easy to understand too, a singer/songwriter of extraordinary talent, her tell it like it is storytelling has struck a nerve with the nations young and not so young. In a short amount of time she has produced some of the sharpest, darn right catchy observational pop songs to ever hit the airwaves. From sing along anthems like 'Mouthwash' and 'Foundations' to the delicate beauty of 'The Nicest Thing' she displays a talent and knowingness that belies her years.
That coupled with an immensely charming and self assured live show has ensured that Miss Nash is held firmly and deservedly in the country's affections, playing sell out show after sell out show she has built a formidable reputation as a live performer. Her set on the main stage at last year's Bestival was a definite highlight for the thousands that caught it and brought about on the sweetest moments of the festival as halfway through the awesome 'Foundations' poor Kate was pelted, albeit affectionately, with real lemons as she reached the lemons/bitter lyrics in the song, only for her to politely ask the crowd afterwards if they could substitute the lemons for something a little softer, like sponges or cake!
Notoriously self deprecating with a sometimes vicious sense of humour it is obvious that Kate's sudden rise to fame is no flash in the pan lucky break, as her star continues to rise Camp Bestival sees Kate play her first headlining slot at a festival but you can guarantee that this won't be her last.
