Gilles Peterson

Hugely influential DJ Gilles Peterson is coming down to Lulworth Castle to set Camp Bestival alight with the most effortlessly cool cuts on the face of the planet.

Gilles set out his musical stall in the late 80s as host of seminal club session Talkin' Loud Sayin' Something' at Dingwalls in Camden, fusing jazz with experimental tracks and hip-hop beats and forging a sound that was soon to become the hallmark of his own labels Acid Jazz and Talkin' Loud.

It wasn't long before this musical tastemaker began to spread his message across the airwaves, first at Jazz FM, then at Kiss and finally as part of the exalted ranks at BBC Radio 1, where his show Worldwide truly is that; an eclectic and invigorating blend of styles and rare grooves. Gilles' latest record label Brownswood is named after the house he had to vacate after it became swamped with his vinyl horde. Not a bad infestation at all, we reckon, and if it means he's out of the house and playing at Camp Bestival, then so much the better.
