The winter blues have not touched the sides at Camp Bestival HQ – we’re in the mood for festival fun! This week we have some mighty fine additions to Camp Bestival’s musical roster to shout about. For starters, Rob da Banks favourite gig of last year was seeing folk supergroup The Imagined Village perform. Their incredible audio visual adventure into the history of British folk music had him in tears after just 3 songs! At Camp Bestival their performance will feature many of British folk’s leading lights including Billy Bragg, Martin Carthy, Eliza Carthy (who will also be performing a special solo show for us), Sheila Chandra and Chris Wood backed by a band featuring Simon Emmerson, Johnny Kalsi, Francis Hylton, Andy Gangadeen, Sheema Mukherjee and Barney Morse Brown. And Benjamin Zephaniah and John Copper will appear on screen bringing the oral tradition of story-telling into the digital age. Wow!

2007 was the year that the world was introduced to Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip’s warped beats and lyrical dexterity and their star is set to rise in 2008 with the release of their much anticipated long player. Likewise, Joe Lean and The Jing Jang Jong have been hotly tipped for the top this year by the likes of the NME and Zane Lowe, as has the truly incredible Ebony Bones! Plus we have buzz band of the moment Black Kids, Eliza Doolittle, an amazing songwriter in a Kate Nash kinda vein (ish!), super-talented siblings Kitty Daisy and Lewis, whose brilliant debut LP is also set to drop this year, ace spoken word artist Gideon Conn, 8 bit whizzkid and one to watch David E Sugar, DIY pop diva Thecocknbullkid, young folk upstarts The Melodica, The Melody and Me, evocative anti-folk murmurings from Emmy The Great, spoken word pop from George Pringle, the ace rap/ska hybrid that is Imperial Leisure, blissful electronica from Jon Hopkins and sweet songs from Folk singer Rachael Dadd.

On the DJ front we will have Bristol’s finest drum n bass courtesy of DJ Krust, upfront jazz, soul and house from BBC Radio 1’s majestic Gilles Peterson, 4 hours of sweet psychedelic prog-rock from Erol Alkan and Richard Norris AKA Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve and the reggae and dub stylings of One Deck and Popular - all ripping it up in the Balearic Bollywood tent. And Gaz’s Rockin Blues and The Shellac Collective will be getting things Rockin’ and a Rollin’ late night style in the Come Dancing Spiegeltent.

But remember Camp Bestival’s not just about the music – its for friends and family who love the whole camping experience, tailored for kids of all ages and folk up for getting stuck into some of the bountiful fun and entertainment on offer. We are chuffed to reveal that The Insect Circus Stage and Museum is our second outdoor stage – so expect mad circus shows and trapeze mania featuring Acrobatic Ants and Vicious Vespa Wasps amongst all the music on offer there. And Underbling and Vow will be joining the party every night with a singalong Cockney knees up with Mickey The Fingers on piano and Rosie & Rosie going up the Elephant and down the Strand in a raucous fashion! Plus Time For Tease will return after their successes at Bestival 2007, once again fusing the tradition of British afternoon tea with the decadent world of burlesque cabaret!

We will also have the Worlds Largest Marching Band – headed up by our very own Ukulele Orchestra and Masters Of The Kazooniverse - we’re gonna get everyone on site marching in our band on Saturday – bring a cymbal, trombone or sousaphone and get stuck into the festi spirit!

For the mini wizards out there we have Physics In The Field – mini science experiments and physics demos for kids and adults alike - see we’re educational as well as fun! For those who go dreamy over a scone and jam delights come join the Dorset Cream Tea Appreciation Society – a daily meet up of like minded cake and cream addicts!

Chill each evening around the flames of joy as the Campfire Sessions kick off – late night exclusive unplugged sets from some of the acts playing at Camp Bestival. Bring ya marshamallows! Also out of respect for the great man himself and self confessed camp fire fanatic we’ll be supporting Strummerville – a charity set up in Joe Strummers memory breaking new music, building great campfires and bringing a lot of heart and soul to Camp Bestival – check out www.strummerville.com for more info.

And it wouldn’t be a Bestival party without some Fancy Dress fun – The Flaming Lips love fancy dress almost as much as us so lets knock em dead and make sure we’re all dressed up to the nines! Themes welcome on our forum - www.sundaybest.net/site/forums

So that’s the latest from us at Camp Bestival – keep checking this website and for more news about the best campsite in the world – 3rd headliner soon to be revealed too so hold tight!
